Known Issues after October 7, 2026, Sulphur Submission Implementation
Fixes are currently being addressed and will be released as soon as possible. Please check this page for updates as they become available.
- The Edit Sulphur Submission screen, the Sulphur Submission Monthly Missing and Balance Report and Sulphur Submissions Quarterly Noncompliance Report currently summarize detail rows differently. This causes noncompliance warnings on the screens to have small differences compared to these reports. Consistent summarization is being implemented across the submission screen and related reports. Fix to be promoted Sunday, October 18
- Noncompliance errors are displayed on the Edit Sulphur Submission screen and Sulphur Missing and Imbalance Report; however, they are not currently displayed on the Query Sulphur Submission screen for the latest amendment. To align with AER business requirements, these errors will also be displayed for the latest amendment on the Query Sulphur Submission screen. Fix to be promoted Sunday, October 18
- In October, when submitting a report request for the Sulphur Submissions Quarterly Noncompliance Report for the quarter 2026-03, the report notification will indicate "No Records". This was intended to give Industry time to learn the S-30 reporting system in Petrinex. Reports will accurately reflect noncompliance's stating Q4 - October production. This design will also impact the Petrinex generated Sulphur Submissions Quarterly Noncompliance report sweep the night of the Sulphur Submissions Reporting Deadline (October 18th). The October 2026 AB Reporting Calendar has been updated to reflect this.

Title: Sulphur Balance (S-30) Learning Module Now Available
The Sulphur Balance (S-30) learning module is now available in the external Learning Management System (LMS). We have released it ahead of schedule to give operators and reporting agents more time to learn the new process before S-30 reporting moves from DDS to Petrinex on October 8, 2026.

Before October 8, we recommend that you:
- complete the learning module; and
- review the TIP - AER Sulphur Balance (S-30) Reporting Moves from DDS to Petrinex; and
- if you are using the CSV functionality rather than just online, review the CSV Spreadsheet Upload Specifications and Template
- Interoperability (IIO) Testing of your CSV file is currently available. Review the IIO Instructions for information on how to submit your IIO test files.
Remember: September 25, 2026, is the last day to submit or amend S-30 reports in DDS. No S-30 submissions or amendments can be made in either suste, from September 26 to October 7.

Update September 4, 2026: Sulphur reporting functionality will be implemented in Petrinex on October 7, 2026. Petrinex will be unavailable from 6:30 p.m. on October 7 for code implementation, and the new functionality will be available on October 8, 2026.
AER Communication:
The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) has published the following message on the Digital Data Submission (DDS) System regarding the upcoming changes to the AER S-30 Sulphur Balance Reporting process transition to Petrinex.
- The Sulphur Balance Reporting System
In fall 2026, the submission system for the S-30 Sulphur Balance Report will transition from the Digital Data Submission (DDS) system to Petrinex. Once the transition is complete, DDS will no longer be available for S-30 Sulphur Balance Report submissions, viewing historically submitted reports, or amendments to prior periods. After the transition is complete, all S-30 Sulphur Balance reporting, including amendments for prior periods, must be submitted using Petrinex and historically submitted reports can also be viewed in Petrinex. When will the training modules be available?
The Sulphur Balance (S-30) learning module is now available in the Petrinex external Learning Management System. If you require assistance accessing your learning profile or creating a new profile contact petrinexadmin@petrinex.ca.
When can I add the sulphur role in Petrinex and assign it to my users?
User Security Administrators (USAs) can set up their users beginning October 8, 2026, once the functionality is available. USAs will assign either an edit role or a read-only role for sulphur reporting, depending on each user's requirements. Will users need a separate role in addition to sulphur?
After the USA creates the two new sulphur reporting roles and assigns the required tasks, every BA user responsible for S-30 sulphur reporting must be assigned one of these roles.
- Users with Petrinex roles outside of sulphur reporting keep those existing roles and are assigned the applicable sulphur reporting role in addition.
- Users whose only responsibility is sulphur reporting require only the applicale sulphur reporting role and no other roles or tasks.
