​To inform all Alberta operators that on Thursday, March 5, 2026, annual methane emissions reporting will move to Petrinex, and O​neStop will only be available to amend reports.

​To notify AB and BC stakeholders that effective February 5, 2026, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) a​nd the BC Energy Regulator (BCER) expanded the allowed products for the volumetric activity of shrinkage (SHR) at certain battery subtypes for blending purposes, in addition to the changes to the product. 

​To update Alberta producers and battery operators how to properly calculate the trucking rate used when claiming an allowance for the transportation of Crown oil to a custody transfer point.

To advise industry producers that as of September 3, 2025, Alberta Energy Oil Royalty Operations (AEM Oil) and the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) approved updates to the Petrinex-generated “Oil Forecast Variance Report”.   The revised report now identifies any variance in volumes and values between production and royalty volumes as reported in Volumetrics by the operator.

To inform Manitoba Industry users that Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) reporting
functionality is now available in Petrinex.

Over the past two years, Petrinex has been developing a new online learning platform to replace our legacy Learning Management System (LMS). This new platform provides access to:

• The full suite of Petrinex learning modules for external users
• Online certification courses from the Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting (CAPPA)

Effective, March 6, 2025, Petrinex will only allow wells with a crude oil status to be linked to crude oil battery subtypes, and wells with a crude bitumen status to be linked to crude bitumen battery subtypes.

To inform First Nation of Interest facility operators that effective March 6, 2025, Petrinex will send a notification when a GCA1 exists with no active wells linked to the facility.

To inform IOGC First Nation of Interest facility operators that effective March 6, 2025, the IOGC GCA1 edit rule IGCA013 has been revised to strengthen the IOGC 30-day limitation on the timing of the facility start date.   

To notify users that new editions of Directive 007: Volumetric and Infrastructure Requirements and Manual 011: How to Submit Volumetric Data to the AER are available on the AER website www.aer.ca.

Effective January 9, 2025, Petrinex will no longer allow the reporting of receipts from AB CO (Commercial). These changes were made by the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) in order to align with the definition of the miscellaneous code AB CO in AER Manual 011 (Table 6).

To advise BC royalty/tax payers that effective December 2024 production month (January 2025) BC Finance (Ministry) has included new warning notifications in Petrinex relating to BC’s statute barred period for Oil Valuation and NGL/Sulphur Valuation submissions.

To inform Industry of Petrinex enhancements made effective November 7, 2024, to the Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) existing GCA1, GCA2 and GCA 3 status types to include a new status “DENIED”.

To notify Alberta (AB) stakeholders that new thermal in situ reporting functionality for AB heavy oil operators came into effect allowing operators to track underground inventories of injected and recovered solvent at subtype 344 (In situ Oil Sands) and 345 (Sulphur Reporting at Oil Sands) batteries and associated subtype 506 (In situ Oil Sands) injection facilities.

To advise licensees that when changing the commingled process to MU Commingling Order, the MU Commingling Approval Number must be entered.

To inform users that updates have been made to the Petrinex screen functionality

​To inform AB Petrinex users and public users that a new public report containing NGL volumetric submissions and stream allocation information is available.

To inform injection facility operators that a Maximum Wellhead Pressure value must be reported for injection activity reported at all types of injection wells (injection, disposal and storage).

To inform AB and BC Battery Operators of additional products that may now be used when reporting shrinkage (SHR) activity in volumetrics.

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) process when requesting a change to the links between a licence and a reporting facility ID has been enhanced. The AER is streamlining the process of requesting this change by introducing an Excel template that is to be completed by the licensee/operator. The Excel template titled “Facility Licence Linking Template (see Bulletin 2023-34)” is available on the AER’s Directive 007 web page under the Forms dropdown. Upon filling in the requested information in the template, please email it to PA.Help@aer.ca. This tip reminds users of the Gas Cost Allowance Business Rules and the timing of Petrinex and DoEM responses regarding Allowable Cost submissions.  ​

This tip informs clients that files will be rejected if they contain duplicate sections within one transaction when submitting a batch file for ownership changes for a Facility Cost Centre (FCC) - AC1.

To remind Industry that Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources made enhancements to Petrinex effective June 2, 2022, to create two new facility subtypes that will allow source water to be reported as produced and injected/disposed under rare circumstances.

This tip is to inform all Alberta Facility Operators of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) online process for the AER Volumetric & Waste Plant Deficiency Invoice Review.

Enhancements were made to the Petrinex functionality on behalf of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources (SER) to include non-hydrocarbon gas valuation in Saskatchewan effective production month February 2023. Currently the only valid product is helium

To notify users that Petrinex will generate both VME0001 and VME0005 errors when both the facility and linked wells are ACTIVE and no volumetric activities have been submitted for the production month.

To share with Industry that the DOE has advised that the DOE Forecast Report available under the menu Monthly - Oil Forecast – Manage Forecast Reporting will be discontinued as of March 2023 (production month 02/23). Until that time, Industry is strongly encouraged not to use this report as part of their forecasting process and use the Petrinex generated “Oil Forecast Report” that is available around the 26th of each month.

To inform AB Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) Industry users that effective November 3, 2022, IOGC Royalty Tax Payer for the product GAS has been added to the IOGC functionality in Petrinex.

This tip is to provide Alberta industry marketing and forecasting staff with an overview of the Petrinex Oil Forecast Tool (OFT), to assist with their monthly forecasting activities. The purpose of this tip is to advise Petrinex users of a change that was made effective August 3, 2022 to the Volumetric Non-Compliance reports in Petrinex

This tip is to inform MB Oil battery operators who deliver to Kingston Terminals that, effective April 2022 production month, Kingston has changed their process and will no longer be taking a line loss volume. The value of the line loss volume will be incorporated in the price paid

To advise that the process for accessing Public Data has been updated in Petrinex to provide both AB and SK public data, by way of the Petrinex Public Data Access website page. Users can access this additional specific public data by clicking on the appropriate jurisdiction.

To inform Industry of changes to the Operator Change functionality in Saskatchewan

To inform SK IOGC Industry users that effective January 5, 2022 an enhancement has been made to the Indian Oil and Gas Canada [IOGC] functionality in Petrinex with regard to IOGC Ministry Reports.

Extending the suspension of penalties associated with RTP101 Petrinex errors for two months.
To inform Industry that changes have been made to the Royalty/Tax Payer information in IRIS which may have caused RTP101 and RTP104 errors

To inform Industry that as of July 8, 2021 Indian Oil and Gas Canada [IOGC] went live in Petrinex with extracts from Petrinex to IOGC and additional functionality in Saskatchewan. This takes Industry closer to the day when duplicate reporting [to IOGC and Petrinex] will no longer be required, once IOGC is fully stabilized in the Saskatchewan Platform (by October 2021).

To inform Industry of adjustments made to the SK Code Table on Petrinex to allow additional facility subtype/licence type links.

The IOGC First Nation (FN) Interest Discrepancy Report has been available to Saskatchewan operators since June 2019 and as of September 3, 2020 is available to Alberta operators of active wells that are IOGC of Interest. This tip describes the information contained in this new report.

On August 5, 2020, changes were made to the Petrinex functionality for the IOGC Royalty/Tax Payer (RTP) functionality in Alberta. Effective, August 6, 2020, Industry users were required to enter the Royalty/Tax Payer information for First Nation of Interest Wells in Alberta. This update was to be effective for the July 2020 production month.

This tip is to inform Industry that the Saskatchewan Energy and Resources has implemented a change to Petrinex that will cease the rolling up of cascade merge (CASMER) volumes for the purchaser oil valuation records. In addition, a details button has been added to the purchaser oil valuation records so that
purchasers can view which cascaded volumes have been rolled up into the single oil valuation volume

To inform Industry that the Saskatchewan Energy and Resources has developed an exchange rate policy that can be used as an acceptable method to convert transaction prices from $US per barrel to $CDN per cubic metre for Petrinex reporting purposes.

This tip describes a clarification to the definition of PURDISP as defined by the Department of Energy (DOE) and, effective November 6, 2013, a change to the proper use of PURDISP (purchased disposition) and PURREC (purchased receipt) when reporting volumetrics for Alberta in Petrinex.
